This week the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) will announce its Overall Award winners for on-ice excellence: Most Valuable Player, Top Scorer, Top Defenceman, Top Goaltender, Rookie of the Year, Most Sportsmanlike Player, Coach of the Year and General Manager of the Year.
Today the KIJHL is pleased to announce that Levi Astill of the Grand Forks Border Bruins is the Top Scorer. The Edmonton native followed up his 91-point campaign last season with 87 this season (27G, 60A) in 44 games to average 1.98 points-per-game. It’s the second straight season he’s the league’s points leader.
“Levi‘s commitment to being an athlete and student of the game has helped him accomplish this,” said Border Bruins head coach-general manager Dave Hnatiuk.
He topped the KIJHL with an 18-game points streak, piling up 43 points (16G, 27A) and played an average of 21:41 a game. Astill has a league best eight game-winners and was a factor on the second-best power-play with 11 goals and 32 points playing 207:38 on the man-advantage.
Astill scored two hat-tricks and had six games in which he scored two or more goals.
“His commitment has been extremely consistent and watching him mature on and off the ice has been remarkable,” said Hnatiuk. “He is leaving here as the Border Bruins’ all-time leading scorer (78 goals) and points leader (227 points in 128 career regular season games) and has set a bar of what dedication and commitment looks like.”
