The Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) is pleased to announce its Stars of the Week for the period ending March 8. For the KIJHL Championships, the league will return to its Stars of the Week format in place of Team of the Week.
Forward – Walker Overwater – Revelstoke Grizzlies
The Olds, Alta., native made an impact in Game 2 against the Merritt Centennials as he assisted on the insurance goal, then scored a natural hat-trick in their 5-0 win. In the two games, Overwater had four goals and five points playing an average of 17:36 a game and was +5.
Defence – Ben Edwards – Grand Forks Border Bruins
The hometown product helped the Border Bruins get off to a good start in their series against the Castlegar Rebels as they lead 2-0. Edwards had three assists and all of them came in Game 1, setting up the winner in a 5-2 final. Edwards was +8 in the two games and played an average of 22:15 a game.
Goalie – Austin Seibel – Revelstoke Grizzlies
The KIJHL’s shutouts leader got his first of the playoffs in their 5-0 win in Game 2 over the Centennials. Seibel was excellent making 43 saves, including 21 in the second period. He helped the Grizzlies take a 2-0 series lead by making 87 saves on 91 shots for a .956 save percentage and a 1.90 goals against average.
