Ethan Davey (100 Mile House Wranglers), Eric Martin (Fernie Ghostriders) and Jasper Tait (Grand Forks Border Bruins) have been selected this week’s Kootenay International Junior Hockey League 3 Stars of the Week for the period ending Dec. 15/24.
Davey – Top Forward – The Terrace, B.C. native had four goals and six points in two games for the Wranglers to help them earn a split on the weekend. Against the Spokane Braves on Dec.13, in a 4-3 shootout loss, Davey assisted on Everett Boutcher’s goal to give them a 3-1 lead. Against the Beaver Valley Nitehawks on Dec. 15 in their 6-5 win, Davey had a big night with four goals, one short-handed and the winner, and collected an assist. He played an average of 19:47 a game and was plus two. Davey has 18 goals and 41 points in 27 games, which ranks him second in the KIJHL. He has established a new season high in points and is six goals shy of setting a new season high in that category.
Martin – Top Defenceman – The Edmonton native had a goal and three assists in three games for the Ghostriders, helping them win their three games during the week. He was plus four, while playing an average of 25:40 a game. He started with a two-assist performance in a 4-2 win against the Columbia Valley Rockies on Dec. 10 – assisting on the winning goal, then on Dec. 14 against the Castlegar Rebels in a 4-3 overtime win, he scored and added an assist. Martin now has 32 points in 24 games, which has him leading all KIJHL blueliners and is 13th among all skaters.
Tait – Top Goalie – The Prince George native won both his games for the Border Bruins against the Nelson Leafs stopping 41 of 43 shots for a 0.96 goals against average and a .953 save percentage. In the first game against his former team, Tait saved 23 of 24 shots in a 4-1 win. Then on home-ice, Tait faced fewer shots, but stopped 18 of 19, as well as all three in a 2-1 shootout win. Since joining the Border Bruins, Tait is 9-0 with a 1.75 GAA and a .928 SP. He is two wins shy of tying the 12 wins he had from his rookie season with the Leafs in 2022-23.
