Astill, Kosec & Garbitt selected as KIJHL 3 Stars

Levi Astill (Grand Forks Border Bruins), Russell Kosec (Grand Forks Border Bruins) and Landon Garbitt (Golden Rockets) have been selected as the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League 3 Stars of the Week for the period ending Jan. 12/25.

Astill – Top Forward – The Edmonton native netted five goals and added seven assists in two games for the Border Bruins. Astill was also a plus-eight, while playing an average of 18:45 a game. His week was highlighted by a four-goal, six-point performance in an 11-1 win over the Spokane Braves (5-5-0 in their last 10). In their 8-2 win over the Castlegar Rebels, Astill had a goal and five points, assisting on the winner. The 6-2, 190-pound forward leads the KIJHL with 66 points in 31 games.

Kosec – Top Defenceman – The Kelowna native had a goal and six assists in two games for the Border Bruins, while having a plus-five rating and averaging 24:47 of playing time. Like Astill, Kosec had a big night against the Braves with a goal and five assists, including setting up the goal to tie the game at 1-1.

In their 8-2 win over the Rebels, Kosec collected an assist. The 6-1, 185-pound defenceman leads the Border Bruins blueline with 29 points in 31 games, which ranks him fourth among all KIJHL defencemen.

Garbitt – Top Goalie – The Grande Prairie, Alta., native stopped 82 of 86 shots in two games for the Rockets and had a 1.93 goals against average and a .953 save percentage. Garbitt had a stellar performance against the Revelstoke Grizzlies on Jan. 11, making 45 saves in a 5-1 win. He saved all 18 shots he faced in the first period. The 6-3, 170-pound goalie also had a 37-save effort in a 3-2 shootout loss to the Fernie Ghostriders on Jan. 10. Garbitt has five wins with a 3.45 GAA and a .909 SP.
